Floral Stairway | Lorena Rivas & Associates

Lorena Rivas reached out to me about creating a floral mural inside her law firm in Tulsa.
This project hit home a little differently for me because of the work she does. Lorena Rivas & Associates focuses on immigration law and serves people navigating immigration matters, with a strong connection to the community.
For the mural, Lorena wanted something floral, but she also wanted to keep the white background of the wall visible. Instead of covering the entire surface, the flowers would stand on their own and move naturally throughout the stairway.
That direction gave the piece a lighter feel.
I painted several flowers native to Latin America, bringing in color while still allowing the architecture and white walls to remain part of the composition. The flowers became the main focus without overwhelming the space.
Because the office remained open while I was working, aerosol was not the right choice for this project. I worked entirely with brushes and acrylic paint, which required a different pace and approach than many of my larger aerosol murals.
Working during regular office hours also meant painting while people moved through the space, employees worked, and clients came in and out. It became a quieter and more detailed process, building the mural flower by flower.
I enjoyed the balance of this one.
The white space kept everything clean and open, while the flowers added warmth, color, and cultural references throughout the stairway.
For me, it was meaningful to create something inside a space connected to immigration and community advocacy. The finished mural brought new life to the stairway while still feeling appropriate for the professional environment around it.
