This was another fun project with the BOK Center, this time for a Tate McRae concert.
To be honest, I had not really listened to her music before this project, but it was still cool getting the opportunity to create something specifically for the show and be part of the overall experience surrounding the concert.
The idea was to transform the car into a photo op that connected visually to Tate’s imagery and branding.
I painted most of the vehicle in a chrome inspired finish and incorporated her name into the design, giving the car a clean, almost futuristic look.
One of my favorite details came from a photoshoot reference where she was wearing seatbelts as part of the styling.
Instead of only painting that idea onto the vehicle, I pulled the actual seatbelts out from inside the car and worked them into the exterior setup.
That gave the piece something physical and unexpected.
It was one of those small creative decisions that made the car feel more like an installation than just a painted vehicle.
This project also came together fast.
Once I had the car, I knocked out the transformation in basically one night. These event projects can move quickly, so sometimes you just have to lock in, make decisions, and get it done.
By the time the show arrived, the car was displayed outside the BOK Center as a photo op for concertgoers.
That is always one of the coolest parts of these projects for me.
The artwork is not just sitting somewhere by itself. People get to walk up to it, take photos with it, and make it part of their own memory of the event.
I’m thankful to the BOK Center for continuing to trust me with these creative projects and giving me opportunities to experiment with different surfaces, ideas, and experiences.
