3D Form Painting | Metal Horse Sculpture
Around this time, the BOK Center started reaching out to me for all sorts of cool creative projects, from custom photo-ops to gifts for visiting artists. This one was definitely a fun one.
For Bad Bunny’s show in Tulsa, I was commissioned to transform a metal horse sculpture into a photo-op inspired by imagery associated with the artist.
The horse already existed and had previously been painted a different color, but the goal was to completely change its appearance for the event. I repainted the sculpture using colors and details inspired by a horse featured alongside Bad Bunny in one of his photoshoots, creating something recognizable that fans could interact with and take photos with during the show.
Working on a three dimensional object made the process different from painting a mural. Every angle mattered, especially because people would be walking around the sculpture and interacting with it. The entire piece needed to feel cohesive from different viewpoints.
It was dope seeing the finished sculpture inside the BOK Center and knowing I had created something specifically for an event surrounding a globally recognized artist. Opportunities like this continued showing me all the different places my artwork could exist, whether on a wall, a canvas, an object, or as part of a larger live event experience.
I also got the opportunity to attend the show with family and friends and had some great seats. Being able to take my mom with me made the whole experience even more memorable. After working on something for the event, getting to sit back with people close to me and experience the show was a pretty surreal way to bring everything full circle.
And the show itself was insane. Bad Bunny put on an incredible performance.
I have a lot of respect for what he has built. Seeing someone chase his dreams, represent his people, reach that level of success, and continue setting trends in his own way is inspiring to me as another creative trying to build something of my own.
