Trailer Facelift | A & J Gift Shop

Tulsa, Oklahoma | June 2024
Aerosol on Metal | 3D Structure

This project came about after completing the mural at East Side Blends in the Tulsa Global District. The owner of A & J Gift Shop, who was also a tenant in the building, saw the work and reached out about bringing some artwork to her business trailer.

A & J Gift Shop offers different gifts, including flowers, teddy bears, and arrangements, especially around occasions like Valentine’s Day. The trailer was used to transport some of those products, and she wanted to give it a new look that better represented the personality of her business.

Instead of a traditional wall, I got to work with the entire metal structure of the trailer. It became another opportunity to approach an object as a three dimensional canvas and think about how the artwork would look from different sides.

One of my favorite things about this project was knowing the artwork would not stay in one place.

Once the trailer was back in use, it essentially became a mobile canvas, carrying the artwork around Tulsa wherever the business went. Every once in a while, I would see it somewhere around town, which was always cool. There is something different about unexpectedly running into your own artwork out in the world.

This project also showed me how one piece of public art can lead to another opportunity. The East Side Blends mural introduced my work to another business owner in the same building, and that connection turned into something completely different.

A mural on a building eventually led to a mural on wheels.
