Los Angeles Paint Trip | CBS x PMK x TGL

This trip came together after Tox-M invited me to tag along with him to Los Angeles.
He was heading out to meet up and paint with some of his homies from CBS, and I was fortunate enough to come along, paint with everyone, and be welcomed into the mix.
The hospitality throughout the trip was beyond.
Big shout out to PMK, CBS, TGL, and everybody who made us feel at home while we were out there. Shout out the homie Sa!
This trip also became another milestone for me because I was welcomed into TGL, The Good Life.
Every time I travel to paint, the circle seems to get a little bigger. More friends in different cities, more people to create with, and more places that start to feel familiar when I come back.
CBS x PMK Production
The first major wall was a collaboration between CBS and PMK.
The overall production had a black and white palette with red roses and thorns running throughout the composition.
There was a portrait of a woman on each side of the mural. Tox-M painted one, and Acme painted the other.
This was my first time meeting Acme, who had come out from Milan, Italy. Real cool guy and another talented painter from CBS.
Across the top of the production, Saute came through with some wild calligraphy style lettering that helped tie the whole wall together.
For the bottom center, I worked alongside Noeli.
I came up with the idea of painting a woman levitating in the center of the composition, while Noeli surrounded her with roses.
I added thorn vines moving around her body, and hidden within those thorns I spelled out VNICE.
I liked how subtle that detail was.
From a distance, the thorns helped frame the figure. Up close, you could start to notice the lettering woven into them.
The whole area had a lot going on while we painted.
Across the corner there was some kind of Gorillaz art event happening, with people moving around the building and through the alley while artists painted all around the area.
It felt very Los Angeles.
People everywhere, art happening in multiple directions, music, walls being painted, and the whole city moving around you at the same time.
Hoover Street
The second major piece was part of a long wall on Hoover Street.
There was some visual connection between the different sections, but for the most part everyone was free to do their own thing.
For my section, I painted a skeleton torso with metalcore inspired lettering cutting through it spelling VNICE.
It was another opportunity to keep developing that heavier visual language I had been playing with through some of my more personal work.
This session had a completely different vibe.
There was a taco truck on the corner, traffic constantly moving through the intersection, music blasting, and everybody putting in long hours on the wall.
It was busy, but somehow still chill.
Those are some of my favorite paint days.
You are locked into your own section, but you can look around and see everybody else doing the same thing. Someone is grabbing food, somebody is playing music, another person is stepping back from their wall, and the whole thing becomes its own little environment for the day.
Back to Venice
Toward the end of the trip, we made our way back to Venice Beach.
At this point, Venice is almost starting to feel like a required stop whenever I make it out to Los Angeles.
We painted around the skate park just for fun, rode bikes along the beach, and took some time to enjoy the area without everything being centered around finishing a production.
It was a good way to close out the trip.
One of the homies also took us out to a Korean spot where the grill was built directly into the table. It was basically all you could eat within a set amount of time, so naturally we got down.
Good food always finds its way into the story somehow.
Looking back, this trip had a little bit of everything.
Big collaborative walls, long paint sessions, new friendships, old friends, good food, music, busy streets, Venice Beach, and another crew to call family.

Another good trip, another set of walls, and another reminder that some of the best parts of painting happen outside the paint itself.
