Luchador Mural | Luchador Coffee

Luchador Coffee is one of those places that leaves an impression.
It is easily one of my favorite spots in Tulsa. I do not make it to that part of town as often as I would like, but whenever I do, it is a must. Between the coffee, the fresh bread, and the overall atmosphere, it is a place that feels full of personality.
This place will definitely wake you up. The kind of coffee that makes you feel like you can knock out ten projects at once and take down ten luchadores with one hand.
Vianca reached out to me about creating artwork for the new space as it was coming together. The concept itself already had a lot of character. Luchador Coffee is rooted in Mexican culture, lucha libre, and creative coffee, so there was already a strong identity to build from.
Vianca and her family are originally from Sacramento, California. The concept came from her brother, who is an entrepreneur involved in several different ventures. He also created the vinyl graphics on the windows featuring luchador imagery, which helped carry the theme throughout the space.
For the mural, I wanted to create something that felt playful and bold, with a little bit of a comic book feel while still staying connected to tradition.
Since luchadores already carry so much tradition and visual power on their own, I started thinking about what other elements could support that world and make the mural even more fun.
That led me to incorporate a couple of lotería cards, including one featuring a luchador and another featuring a cup of coffee.
Those additions helped tie together two parts of the space’s identity. On one hand, there is the tradition and cultural familiarity of the luchador. On the other, there is the coffee shop experience itself. Bringing those together through lotería made the mural feel a little more playful and layered.
The whole piece was meant to feel energetic, approachable, and full of character. Something that could help the room feel alive and contribute to the experience of being there, not just decorate the wall.
By the end, I was really happy with how everything came together.
This project was a fun opportunity to create something colorful and rooted in culture for a place that already had a strong sense of personality. Luchador Coffee is definitely a gem in South Tulsa, and I’m thankful to Vianca and the team for trusting me with the wall.
