I was commissioned by Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa to create Dreamer as part of a rotating artist feature on an 8 by 8 foot panel located within the park.
The project took place during Hispanic Heritage Month, and I wanted to create something that represented my people and recognized a story that is familiar to so many of us.
Dreamer was inspired by the field workers, the hard workers, and the people who make up so much of our workforce. People who work long days, sacrifice, provide for their families, and continue pushing toward something greater. The piece was about honoring that work ethic while also recognizing the dreams behind the work.

Creating the piece at Guthrie Green made the experience even more meaningful. It is a well-known gathering place in downtown Tulsa where people come together for concerts, events, food, and community activities. Having the opportunity to represent this story in such a public space during Hispanic Heritage Month was special to me.
I also painted during one of Guthrie Green’s events, which brought a completely different energy to the process. I was able to meet new people, network, have conversations while I worked, and see friends stop by throughout the day.
It became more than just painting an 8 by 8 foot panel. It was an opportunity to put something meaningful in front of a new audience and celebrate the people whose hard work, sacrifice, and dreams deserve to be seen.
